Leatherhead Fire Station 10K run (12-Nov-06)

Tim - 52 min 59 sec      JJ - 52 min 59 sec  Guest 13 - 47 min 30 sec

Not only did both MD legends feature in this race but there was also a special appearance by Guest 13 who joined
the MD running team and proudly wore his official t-shirt!

This was the third ever Leatherhead Fire station 10K and it is definitely one of the best on the circuit.  We arrived
early and went to the changing rooms, within seconds JJ had spotted the fireman’s pole and he was up it like a ferret.
Guest 13 then found a cupboard full of Firemen uniforms and it was all we could do to drag him away and find a
place at the start line.
The conditions were good and we set off together but within a couple of K’s we had to let Guest 13 kick on and find
his own way ahead of us.  He left us for dust as we fell behind muttering about our past 42K glories!  The amazing
thing about the run is that for the challenging couple of kilometers of uphill there is a very rewarding three or four
kilometers of downhill.  During the latter stages of the races we encountered the closest we have had to adulation
(or should that be ‘recognition’?) when a cute blonde overtook us and said “go on Marathon Drinkers… I’ve seen your
exploits on Runner’s World.”

With a final sprint to the finish we sneaked in just under the 53 minute mark to be greeted by a triumphant Guest 13 who had just set a Personal Best.  We celebrated with an extremely tasty and well priced hot-dog before heading back to London for a few beers where it all started… MD pub number 1!

Messing around in the Fireman's changing room... (it isn't how it sounds...honest!)

Action shots running down the big hill

Success = hot dog, medal and fire engines!
