The Hastings Half-Marathon (12-Mar-06).

Tim - 2 hours 29 min 41 secs

This was my fourth Hastings half marathon and this time I had my little sis by my side so something told me it would not be a PB day!  We arrived extremely early to ensure parking and bagged one of the first spaces in the car park.  So early in fact that the port-a-loos (there were 30… yes I counted them!) were sparkly clean and stocked with paper!  With an hour and a half to kill we had time for a rare sleepy before stretching and making our way to the crowded starting enclosure.  Still yawning we shivered in the cold, counting the minutes down as Chariots of Fire blasted out over the loudspeaker.  The starting gun fired and we were soon facing the first hill.  Hastings is generally thought of as one of the top UK half marathons and it certainly is…. great crowds, a seafront finish and UNFORGETTABLE hills!

I left the tactics up to my sister and at about 6 miles she had made her mind up… there was a foxy blond girl who we had been overtaking and being overtaken by and little sis had had enough.  She would not let her beat us so we tucked in behind her ready to make a sprint as we got closer to the end.  Always one to show brotherly support I faithfully followed this Barbie doll for six glorious miles although I was a little disappointed to see some of the spectators perv at her as she bounced past. With one mile to go we sadly made our move (still it gave her chance to enjoy my butt) and kicked out to the finish line.  Tired but happy we drove off past the toilets (which by now had taken a battering), each of us thinking happy thoughts.
