The Tamworth 10K was our first joint race of the year and the prolific Guest 3 (complete with official Marathon Drinkers T-shirt) joined us for this one. It was a bitterly cold and damp February morning so we were chuffed that Guest 5 and wonderdog Reggie were on hand to give support, together with my sister and future brother-in-law (and indeed future guests). The only "missing" face at the start was the one time Wolves hero Don Goodman who was allegedly the official starter. Well we saw no sign of him but his shock-haired mugshot is clearly splashed all over the local Lichfield Chronicle! We had entered as an official team in pursuit of a place on the winners podium but the elements were against us. We did however come home in a respectable 1hr 4 mins which was a PB for Guest 3. Tamworth turned out to be a pikey area (don't be fooled by the stately castle) and the run was mostly urban. Even JJ and I with our dodgy East End pub drinking experiences were shocked to run past a freshly burnt out car which was still covered in smoldering fire-extinguishing foam! At the finish not only were we greeted by our supporters, we were honoured to be presented our incredibly chunky medals (they were beasts and put most race to shame) by the local Mayor and Mayoress! However, not all runners were as impressed - a number of reviews on the runner's world website referred to the Mayor and his wife as "fame chasing junkies!". Oh well, another run ticked off, bring on the next challenges!
