The Silverstone Half-Marathon (18-Mar-07).
Tim – 1 hour 59 mins 25 secs
JJ – 1 hour 59 mins 26 Secs
Guest 5 – 3 hours 15 mins 46 secs
The race was the story of four seasons in one day…. Again without my car I traveled up to this race on an ‘Executive Coach’ which had to be the biggest case of stretching the truth ever! I met JJ and Guest 5 in a garage where the majority of runners were huddling to keep warm on a viciously cold day.
The race is on and around the historic grand prix circuit which means good novelty value for the first ten minutes but very little atmosphere. However, it’s a great warm-up to the London Marathon due to a field of circa 10,000 runners. Within minutes of setting off we knew it would not be a PB race due to the large field and freaky whether conditions so we decided to take it easy and enjoy the occasion. After less than a mile it started hailing very hard and the sound of grown men yelping ‘ouch’ will be with us until our dying days.
As the race progressed we experienced beating sun, torrential rain, a smattering of snow and swirling winds. All this must have unsettled the race starter Nigel ‘tubs’ Mansell who came past the checkered flag a good hour after JJ and I. Further down the field, Guest 5 was having a great race and her thanks go to Kate and Kelly who were great company for her. On behalf of MarathonDrinkers.com JJ and I also apologize to Kate and Kelly for the sprint finish Guest 5 put in which equated to a thorough dicking!
With just over a month to London the signs are good for a great MD showing…

Hard men don't need running jumpers...
