The Newport Free Grammar School ON's v The School Cross-Country (21-Apr-07)

JJ - 30 min 40 sec

  21st Overall

I'm not sure why, but I had already agreed to run this race before I got my Marathon place and so I felt obliged to do so. The day was warm with a strong ON's team out of the day. I had decided very early doors that I would be taking it very easy on this run and so it proved. As the kids raced off, I settled into a very steady pace along with fellow runner Colin and we had a nice easy run in the sunshine over the course. Even the dreaded hill was run up in good form this time around! The ground was very hard as there had been not much rain and so was very tricky underfoot. Luckily I didn't pick up any injuries and managed to negotiate the last field which was full of oilseed rape without getting too bad hay fever. Interestingly, this was only about 4 minutes off my PB for the course and I didn't even break sweat, so there has to be some potential there! But would it be a negative effect the next day as I tackled the London Marathon once more...?
