The Kingston Breakfast Run (1-Apr-07)

Tim - 2 hours 12 min 53 sec

It was my fourth breakfast run and this time there were no MD guests or fellow legends to get me round so it was just me and my iPod slugging it out around two laps of Kingston.  It is a great pre-marathon run as it is very flat and scenic as half of the race is running alongside The Thames.

I had to cross London by car extremely early to get there so after leaving at silly ‘o clock I arrived with about two hours to spare before the race.  It was either going to be an early morning beer or a sleepy so I took the safe option and set the car seat to recline.  It was surprisingly cold waiting for the gun to go but when we did get running the race whizzed by and I got around comfortably without ever really stepping up to second gear.

Towards the end of the first lap I was overtaken by a giant latex penguin which spurred me on somewhat to pick up the pace and I eased passed him/it with 3 miles to go.  My finishing time put me 841st out of a field of 2,124 which I was chuffed with.  However, I was less than chuffed with the infamous ‘finisher’s mug’ which will join the others in my kitchen cupboard which are earmarked for visitors I don’t really like.

Where's my medal?!?
