Running Report
The Kingston Breakfast Run (2-Apr-06).
I had been dreading the longest practice run on my schedule as I had never ventured that far outside of a marathon… it was 24 miles! I had successfully completed recent training runs of 19, 21 and 23 miles so to make this more interesting I decided to find an official race. The closest I found was the Kingston Breakfast Run which was 16 miles.
I set off at 7am, knowing I had an extra 8 miles to run before I even got to the start line if I was to meet my target! I set off from home a few minutes later than planned and by the time I had got to the start line all of the male runners had gone (about 15 minutes ago!). So I took my place in the ladies race and waited for the start. From that point on I barely saw another bloke as they were miles ahead.
The actual race is two, 8-mile laps around Kingston and along the Thames. By the end of the first lap I was tired and only just catching up with some of the chubbier men but I felt rather supercilious knowing I had an extra 8 miles under by belt. By the end I was washed out, but came round in less than 4 hours which was my target. I picked up my finisher’s mug and was thankfully driven home for a long, hot soak in the bath.

No medal, just a poxy mug!
