The Harlow 10 (8-Aug-07)

Guest 1 proved himself a true marathon (well almost) drinker by organizing this little jaunt one fine Sunday morning in August.  Fresh from the previous night’s pasta meal (ably prepared by Guest 20), we set off at a steady pace from the stadium grounds and found a gentle rhythm.

The heat was intense and I found even more respect for those who had suffered during this year’s London marathon.  Every water stop and sponge stop was well received and by mile 5 our tans were coming along nicely although Guest 1 was feeling the weight of his FULL head of hair.

We put the world to rights as the miles sped by, although at times this consisted of Guest 1 chirping “Slow down big man”, “Whoa there soldier”, “Easy on the pedal” etc…  But we were doing well and took great pride in running up a particularly steep hill at mile 8…. Given all the other runners walked it.  Guest 1 was rewarded with a kiss and hug from Guest 20.  MD Legend Tim got bob all….

The organizers had promised a stadium finish and a stadium finish they delivered… we hit the running track with 400 metres to go and kicked off into a full sprint.  We crossed the finish line together (no medals – don’t start me off!) and received our finishers T-Shirts.  Free pint to the first MD Guest to decipher what they say!
