·        Bad news: We awake on the eve of the marathon with only 3 hours sleep under our belts.

·        Bad news: Our early morning taxi driver almost nods off at the wheel and I spend the final minutes of the ride seeking his opinion of Beckham’s certain recall to the England squad just to keep him awake.

·        Good news: The guy next to me on the plane is happily reading a book.

·        Bad news: The novel is called ‘The Escaped Cock’.

·        Bad news: I spend the full hour of the flight worrying that he may try to find then restrain the missing beast.

·        Bad news: We check into our hostel and I get the top bunk bed.

·        Bad news: It’s the morning of the marathon and we awake to driving rain and swirling winds.

·        Bad news: My stopwatch breaks down before we even start running and my iPod crashes after just three songs.

·        Bad news at 10 miles I feel pain from my left ankle to my left buttock.

·        Good news: At 13 miles I am on good form as a nearby runner tells me my split is 1 hour 50 mins.

·        Bad news: A blister develops on my right foot and I feel like I’m hobbling along.

·        Good news: At 23 miles my iPod comes back to life but I am struggling as I am in the middle of ‘the wall.’

·        Bad news: ‘I’m walking in the air’ comes on random play on my iPod and in my emotionally depleted stated I shed a few tears.

·        Good news: From nowhere I find the energy for a sprint over the last two miles.

·        VERY good news: I come home in a PB nine and a half minutes faster than my record... leaving me in 959th place.

·        VERY good news: I trudge back to the 25.5 mile mark to see JJ heading home to knock off a massive 23 minutes of his PB.
