In The Beginning (how it all came about)....
Tim and JJ are bored......really bored. Tim is a marathon runner. JJ is a disillusioned, injury-prone, would-be alcoholic. Something has to be done.
"Hey, marathon running. That sounds a good idea. Erm.. just what's involved....?"....and so it began...
After a fluke of the ballot, both Tim and JJ get places in the 25th anniversary London Marathon and begin their long grueling 16 week training program. After a few weeks, JJ realises that this is harder than he first thought. The knees are sore and somehow he has stopped drinking. Whilst the running itself is great fun and he feels fitter than ever before, some more motivation is required. Alcohol to the rescue.....
Tim's extensive research has already shown that Guinness is the drink which is best for someone in training. But there's no fun in just a single pint surely?
No, a greater challenge is required. It is obvious that they are going to need a monster pub-crawl to slake their thirst by the time the Marathon has been completed, but we all know the dangers of binge drinking....
Inspired by a throw-away comment in a book, JJ proposes that the old chestnut of the Monopoly board pub crawl needs updating. The hours spent traveling to work have not been in vain - staring him in the face every day is the map of the London Underground. The kernel of an idea began to form...
