Get your 50p's ready if you go in the back room! |
As we headed back from the Edinburgh marathon and our rockeoke exploits of the night before, we were well up for a few MD's to get back into the saddle and the flight into London City Airport gave us the perfect chance. To maintain purity of the exercise we couldn't go straight off the plane to the closest pub and so a trip to the end of the line was necessary.
We easily found the Royal Standard "Hotel" and lugged our cases into the place to find two underage fatties playing darts. We waited and a scrawny east end barmaid (think of that one who was the ginger's mum in Eastenders) came out and served us. We moved into the second bar area and watched as a succession of other fatties of different ages arrived and the place became like a wierd family front room! The man servicing the fruit machines was obviously intimidated as he left soon after to leave us there alone with the family.
We decided to sup up and move on because we obviously didn't fit in, not being related to everyone else and all. But as a last minute check, I thought I'd go check the back room from which I could see another fruit and there was some music playing. I was rather surprised to see a small group of what looked like builders sitting in the dark as a blond in the nip gyrated around to the sound of Beyonce. Aye, it was our first ever MD pole dancing experience! I did a comedy u-turn and headed back to the main bar and asked Tim to guess the contents of the back room. His guess....? A grand piano (c.f. Marble Arch). How wrong he was! Would there be a whole troupe at London City Airport, perhaps air hostesses earning a little extra bunce...?

Beyond those doors the action begins...
