OVERALL  The long walk was worth the wait!

Although as the crow flies, this pub isn't all THAT far from Brent Cross tube station, we inadvertently took the "scenic" route via the shopping centre after turned right instead of left out of the pub. We then turned right and right again to come around in a big square and back up towards Golders Green. We confused some passers-by by asking where the nearest pub was - obviously not a drinking area! But the most worrying was when we passed a drunk sitting in a little alcove alongside the pavement. The guy looked dead to the World, we could only presume that this was another drinker that just didn't make it...

We arrived with some relief to the White Swan and we were pleasantly surprised. The pub was large with lots of tables and alcoves and separated areas giving it something for everyone. The unusual murals on the wall gave the place a uniqueness we haven't seen before. The highlight though had to be the lovely barmaid who gave me garbled instructions in some incomprehensible Eastern European accent that sounded great but didn't give us much chance of getting back to the tube!  The gal was obviously a local attraction with plenty of "dirty old" men hanging around the bar bantering away. It must be noted that Scampi Fries cost a shocking 70p, especially as the pub at Colindale had sold them for 55p less than an hour ago! Tim was impressed by the sale of Polish beer Okochina - Polish is becoming a theme more and more on these outings! Upon departure we headed to Golders Green (which is pretty close and better served by Buses than Brent Cross!) and we were lucky to bump into an old friend of mine from Uni. MD nights bring up all sorts of surprises! Would we find maybe an old flame at Island Gardens next time out...?

Murals on the wall? Tate it ain't!
