OVERALL  Less than the sum of its parts

On a single branch of the Northern line, Mill Hill East is right at the edge of town and reminds me of Harlow in Essex. Turning left from the station, we walked past various housing estates until we reached a large green area with the Railway Engineer at its epicentre. Obviously a place for locals to congregate, there were lots of wooden tables outside with plenty of all day drinkers there, running from bare-chested burning men, through fag toting mothers (think Kathy Burke from the Slobs), tracksuited and blinged young girls right down to earringed babies in their prams. Having said that, the atmosphere was not unpleasant and seemed a real community. We entered the large pub with the central bar decorated with the ubiquitous England regalia, kicked the punctured football and made our way to the back of the pub where we were met by three coloured pool tables - red, blue and green. We were surprised to find that each had a different price, ranging from £1 to £1.20. The options were not just baize colour, but also normal or "speed" pool, and also a variation in cueing room! Noticing a triplet of large breasted women coming into the bar, we positioned ourselves accordingly but after suffering a near 7-ball defeat, Tim decided one game was enough and we decided to move on and headed to High Barnet...
