 OVERALL  Better inside than outside

À Gauche out of the station and along the main road we encountered The Old Globe.... which looked fairly tatty from the outside. The pub was low on customers and atmosphere but we got served by a cheery and decidedly 'east-end looking' blonde barmaid. We both settled for Guinness as the Fosters and Carlsberg were off and there was no way that JJ would entertain another Red Stripe! However, the barmaid apologised profusely and handed over the darts for us to play our first ever MD game together! True to pool form I thrashed JJ (even with the very kind loan he had of the barmaid's arrows!). The more we spoke to Kate the more we warmed to her, and even more so when we realised she was in fact an Ozzie.... which explained the large Australian flag draped above the widescreen TV. A balding middle aged guy called Tim popped in just to fawn over Kate and present her with a bunch of flowers (not a glimpse into my future I hope!). But our Kate's heart was firmly fixed on her partner (and landlord) "Chris", so Tim trudged off to another night of loneliness. The actual pub was nothing special at all but we had warmed to it, and in the unlikely event we were ever local again, we vowed to pop in. Time for Hendon Cenral.....
