OVERALL  A total dive and the first time a pub has been even less than the sum of its parts

After the fairly poor quality at Poplar, we weren't expecting too much here and we were certainly not disappointed. The George IV (Regency Hotel) looks horrible from outside and is even worse inside. The bar was unbelievably smoky as old men sat around playing cards or reading their papers whilst sucking on a woodbine and "enjoying" making a half last all morning. A couple of England flags stuck on the wall didn't help to disguise the faded and peeling lime wallpaper. The room was full of air fresheners (but not enough) and the toilets were beyond description. This place is actually a hotel and a google search done later on told me that they actually advertise this place for potential wedding parties. I am sure that there can be no better way to start out on your married life than a party in the tap bar of the George IV! The poor suffering barmaid was joined by a fairly ropey friend and they proceeded to blow up balloons for a birthday party (no weddings booked yet then? but a birthday party is a start!). There was certainly a good pair of lungs there, but for once that ISN'T a euphemism. This place didn't even have that to say for it (see photo). The worst pub we have been to so far and by quite a way. Hopefully we would have more luck at Shoreditch...

Undercover picture of balloon blowers. James Bond has nothing on Tim!
