After a longish tube journey and a quick bite to eat, I joined up with International Guest 4 and it wasn't long before we were enjoying a pint of finest beer in cheerful friendly (albeit-buildery) Irish pub surroundings. Unfortunately we were still waiting for Tim, who was still traveling to meet us! We had decided to try out the Shanakee, which is the 2nd closest pub to Ealing Broadway station as a little warm up. Eventually Tim arrived and we wandered around to the distinctly unexciting Chandlers. There are LOTS of pubs to choose from at Ealing Broadway (c.f. our next stop!), and its a toss-up between here and the Shanakee. Unfortunately this place is more prominent and certainly is the first you see. Inside the decor is palm trees and light pine tables. All very nice, but there is a distinct lack of character. We got our beer from the admittedly very friendly barmaid and sat down. They played the sort of music that everyone knows and has in their collection, but you wouldn't play back at the bachelor flat to impress a new bird - you know what I mean. Tim and Guest 4 chatted about beards, GPS and Finland, whilst I amused myself by burning a napkin. For the price, this wasn't the best, but the evening was still young and guests were waiting to meet us at West Acton...
