OVERALL  Good effort on the decorations and an impressive snow(bar)man

By this time, we were well lubricated and the evening was going swimmingly. Fuelled by our chip butties, people raced through the Prince of Wales, enjoying the decor. With three separate bars in a linear design, this pub was easy to get served in. The abundance of Christmas decorations gave the place a festive feel and the presence of a giant inflatable snowman "manning" the central bar was warming to the most humbuggy of hearts. Punters happily watched the footy on TV, played pool or enjoyed some of the board games from behind the bar. A contingent of MD'ers popped down their 5 quid deposit and began to set-up the Ker-Plunk. The standard shambles ensued when it emerged that some of the sticks had been half-hinched and it was impossible to keep all the marbles at the top to start the game! In disgust, Tim and myself took ourselves to another section of the bar before being accosted by the slightly hefty barmaid with a book of raffle tickets. The first prize of a "pint a day for a year" was too good to turn down, even if the barmaid hesitated far too much for plausibility when we asked her if it was for charity. We settled in on one of the two (TWO!) quizzers and promptly won some cash with a display of general knowledge prowess rarely seen outside of Mastermind. The groupies started to mill around, but we knew when to walk away undefeated and our quizzing was over for another day. Some of our guests waved goodbye for the evening, we decided to give the Crocodile Tail salad at the nearby South African restaurant a miss and we headed off for our last stop of the evening, a cheeky one at Southfields...

Well earned quiz winnings!
