It took a bit of searching to find a pub here, but fortunately JJ and I had arrived a good ten minutes before the guests. We exited the tube station, followed the signposts to the buses, and headed straight on down the hill over the crossroads. We entered the Railway Tavern and were soon met by the faithful Guest 3 (I hope!), and the shiny new Guest 13. The pub was fairly nondescript although they did have what must be considered as a ‘posh dining area’ as it was on a raised level and had proper table mats and everything! We were saddened to see signs around the pub suggesting an old local called Jock (a.k.a Big Jock for sure) had recently passed away and that his funeral was in exactly one week’s time. We were also somewhat relieved that his wake was not this very day as somehow our tawdry scorecard and commemorative pictures of the pub visit may not have been appropriate. Onwards to South Woodford, to look for more signs of life...!
