 OVERALL  Well worth a visit!

With the school holidays in full swing, myself and Guest 5 embarked on an epic journey abroad with the express ambition of participating in a prolonged bout of what Tony's namby pamby do-gooders would no doubt call "irresponsible binge drinking". Being the sensible adults we are, we decided that our best bet was to drink through each day at a steady pace. Our first few days were spent around the art galleries and museums until we realised that we weren't fooling anyone and the best thing Dublin has to offer is it's pubs after all. Our four day trip is best split into pre-Guinness Brewery tour and post-Guinness Brewery tour, after which we really ramped up our attempts to visit as many different pubs as possible, rather than just sticking to the few recommended in the guide books. A few things happened of note, firstly we got at least two free pints because the barmaids didn't get round to charging us properly, we had some fantastic Irish Stew (go to Farringtons and ask for Grainne). Most exciting of all was the night we were in a pub when the "new" Guinness, Brew 38 was released. Based on an old recipe, it is only on sale in Dublin and according to the man from the brewery (who gave us free beer!), it is of a milder taste and appeals to both Stout and Lager drinkers. (I think he meant girls and nonce's like it as well as real men). All the local paparazzi were there, but best of all that night was meeting "Jim", a true gentleman salesman from Stoke who joined us for some good banter and more importantly, bought us beers all night from his corporate entertainment account. Thanks Jim and I hope you remembered the website addy!

Approximately 35 pints, 20 pubs, 1 brewery, 1 distillery and an airport bar after setting off, we headed back to Blighty, happy that we had "done" Dublin and ready for some London MD action, beginning in Hammersmith...

The unveiling of the new Guinness!

A typical Dublin pub urinal, note the very narrow apertures and closeness of the troughs
