This was the pits... and it took a good ten minutes of walking to find it! A left out of the tube, past the soon to be bulldozed Highbury stadium and via the backstreet terraced housing we encountered the @ Club. This was formerly known as The Arsenal Tavern but someone must have had the great idea to reinvent this hell-hole. And reinvent it they did by scaring off most of the punters and covering the ceiling with maroon lino! Still, it progressed my mission to make JJ drink at some of the ponciest pub names possible (within the rules of Marathon Drinking). It is likely that this pub is crowded on match-days with Gooners desperate to watch the Sky TVs, but on this particular night (and I'm sure many others) the pub was less than a fiftieth full! The only chink of amusement came when an old Irish guy (let's call him Paddy) wandered in, ordered a pint of Guinness and plonked a large bag of potatoes on the bar. Neither we or the Chinese barmaid had much to add to the ensuing banter which ran along the lines of "by Jaysus... there you go with your bag of potatoes". There simply was nothing left to say so we started the trek back to the station in search of a final beer (and hopefully some food) at Finsbury Park...
