OVERALL

Architecturally interesting, but not really recommended

With our heads held high, we decided on another magical mystery tour on the DLR, catching the first train to arrive at Canary Wharf, yet again sending us towards Lewisham. After an earlier visit to Mudchute, we were pretty sure there was a local pub at Island Gardens and so we alighted to find it pouring with rain. With JJ's old shoes leaking faster than money from a Frenchman's wallet in a brothel, we ran to where we knew the pub was only to find it was closed and didn't open until 2pm! With our heads held low, we headed back towards Canary Wharf, to our contingency site, observed as we passed by the first time, The George at Crossharbour & (the now closed) London Arena. This pub was ex-Watneys, and architecturally very interesting with a "The Garden" - a nice big conservatory - and three separate bars linked by the women's toilets! We camped in the "Ma Baker's Bar" (the one in the middle) and tried to dry out. I couldn't tempt Tim to revisit the far flung hellhole that is the West Midlands with some Traditional Black Country Pork Scratchings, but they were very nice indeed, much better than Cockney eels and mash! Maybe that would be our food fare the next day in Greenwich when we visited the Cutty Sark...?
