Our first expedition out of Zone 1 and we decided to go straight for it and head out into Zone 3 on the Northern Line and work our way back into town. Thus, we ended up at Golders Green, haven for the bus spotter and home to many a Jewish Londoner. After some searching, we headed out opposite the station and up the hill and found the Gate Lodge on our left. The rather nice barmaid served us our drinks (again, very willing to give out costing information) and we sat down by the front door to try and get some fresh air as it was very hot. The pub itself is a linear style pub and had decided to go for the Thai theme as its culinary offering, with a large selection on the menu and the prices looking very reasonable. Apart from a youngish woman who came in as we were just finishing off, the pub was full of the regular daytime punters who we are now so used to seeing. Having said that, the people were non-threatening despite the sign above the bar reading "We shoot every third salesman that comes in here......the second just left". But this was to be a heavy night of many pubs and many guests, so we couldn't hang around to see the carnage, destiny and Hampstead awaited....
