This really was our last available pub in Zone 1 as Russell Square was unexpectedly re-opened following a month long closure due to the London bombings. We seized the opportunity to visit here (albeit on a Monday after work) and we were pleasantly surprised. On exiting the station, we followed the road ahead and found that The Goose was only a 3 minute walk away. (We had to pass a suspiciously chain-like Irish bar which was attached to an international hotel chain, and thus a non-qualifier). The pub was very relaxed and contained the most quirky set of clientele ever witnessed by marathon drinkers! There was a nun (yes - a nun!) proudly knocking back a pint of what looked suspiciously like vodka orange, there was a freaky but harmless looking goth and a collection of men with walking sticks and motorised wheelchairs... which may explain the table service offered by the barmaids! With beer prices low and a range of facilities, this pub was clearly marketed at the local student population or legless blokes! Either way, we enjoyed our ale and left, safe in the knowledge that the outer Zones were beckoning, and our first stop would be Golders Green....
