Buoyed up with our success at Lambeth North, we decided to go for one more pub and bowled up at Charing Cross. We scouted around and after rejecting a couple of wine bars, we came to the inevitable T&J Bernards offering, the Silver Cross. With some resignation, we entered and got our pints. We put the slightly unusual prices down to a "Tourist Tariff". For this pub is the worst kind of tourist trap. Old styley furniture, leaded windows and fake beams all goes to make our friends from abroad think this is the real English Pub Experience (TM). Unfortunately we know that this makes it a cack pub. There was nothing here of any interest apart from the unusual quiz machine actually mounted on the bar. It was a touch screen job with no payout. We popped in a 50p and played a couple of footy quizzes (quizzes were themed) before realising that the previous player had left 11 credits! We felt duty obliged to use them up, but it soon became clear why they had prematurely left. This was the worst quizzer ever, the questions were obviously translated from some foreign language or other with abysmal grammar and sometimes no answers to choose from at all! It became a badge of honour. We would finish all the plays even if it killed us. This is what being British is all about, battling on in the face of adversity..... Emotionally drained and weak, we eventually finished our games, swore "never again" and left for home, ready to pick up again on Monday with what would hopefully be a rewarding trip to Barbican.
