A quick lunchtime pint before a second session after work was quickly organized as was a meet with Guest 3, earning her second MD cap. We headed to the Borough Street exit to avoid the station pubs and a coin toss took us to the East side exit. A sign invited us to the "Celebrated Old Kings Head" (down an alleyway right next to the station exit), and who were we to argue? The frontage is rather nice with big stain glass windows and a nice plaster figure of Henry VIII. Inside it unfortunately is not so nice. The pub is OK, but very dull even with the large windows. We ordered our pints and sat down at a table at the back and a flash was required to take our now-traditional photos! The excitement of two new games ("Hex" and "Trivia for Dummies") on the quizzer was somewhat dampened when a geezer played on it for the whole of our visit :o( The second disappointment of our visit was the potential raised in the Mother and Daughter combo that were behind the obviously family-run bar. A milliseconds worth of fantasy was obliterated as it became obvious that neither were really worth a second look. The third and final disappointment was offered up in the bar snacks. This was to be the cruelest of them all. A flush of excitement filled Tim's little face, "they have Scampi Fries". Off he scampered like a child with a balloon....... unfortunately it burst! For, dear reader, the price of a bag of Scampi Fries was a horrific 70p in this pub. A quick analysis revealed that this correlates to 5p per Scampi Fry (we counted them!). A shocking outcome to which there really was no answer. It was a dark day for MD's the world over. Still, never mind, we were sure that thing's would pick up on our evening tour, starting at St. Paul's.
