Our final pub of the evening was reached in what can best be described a s high spirits. The necessity to down an extra drink each in the last pub had meant we were bubbling up nicely and we were pleased to find the uniquely named Hog In The Pound. This is a strange place architecturally, located on a corner it is almost triangular in shape and on two floors, the downstairs being larger and probably suitable for a dance floor on a Friday or Saturday night. By this time, JJ had given up all hope of getting home and a place was accordingly booked on Tim's floor and the obligatory text message sent home. We knew that this was the last pub of the evening as last orders rapidly approached, so we felt obligated to hit the quiz machine. The excitement of a couple of new games - Mousetrap and Spiderman - was tempered by our poor performance and a fair amount of cash was quickly dicked away with no wins at all! The place was really closing down and as we frittered away our hard earned cash, the bar staff brought in the tables and stacked the chairs from outside. Were they trying to tell us something? Eventually we drank up and headed our merry way. A decent night had been had by all, the "guest" experiment had been a success and will be repeated and we had made decent progress on our quest by knocking off seven pubs in an evening. The story would continue next week with a trip to Westminster.
Post-script - Tim and JJ narrowly avoided meltdown as we unwisely piled into a bar at Wimbledon on the way back to Tim's for "one for the road". Luckily they had stopped serving and our only activity there was to appreciate the bizarre architecture in this converted swimming pool whilst taking a leak. The next day, with his spare change of clothes at the office, JJ used his patented "tramp-look" on the train to work. It wasn't the first time and it won't be the last.....
Our esteemed guests, who had contributed greatly to the evening
