Disappointing compared too what it could be |
| Facilities | 3 fruities, no TV but an interesting balcony | |
| Ladies | A few bits here and there but nothing eye-catching |
| OVERALL | Decent enough bar for a lazy Sunday afternoon |
A big hi-five for the first Royal pub of the challenge, the "Prince Alfred" which is a short walk along the high street if you take a left out of Bayswater tube station. We almost didn't make it past the front door as the qualification status was in doubt due to the placard on the door boasting about the coffee and wine range within. Inside we were welcomed by a roaring fire which we walked straight past to catch up with JJ who had found the "Fruit Machine Den". This was a strange corner of the bar with 3 fruities backed up against each other which somehow didn't quite work. With his £5 jackpot pocketed, JJ unveiled an illegal cream-cheese sandwich... I think we are going to have to revisit the rules! There was no TV to be seen (not always a bad thing) and the toilets were particularly pine-fresh (not always a good thing). We were enticed upstairs by the promise of a "Sofa Lounge" which failed to live up to expectations, mostly due to the shortage of sofas! On the positive side there was a single outside balcony which is available for punters who do not exceed the balcony capacity of 8 people and are also willing to drink out of plastic cups... Not for us though, Notting Hill Gate and pub five was beckoning....
